Best of March

// Perfume // Nail Polish // Birkenstock // Shirt // Parka //

March, oh March. You have a crazy month. Last week we had a snow storm, but at the beginning of the month it was 60 degrees. The insane weather is the main reason I don't have too many clothes on my favorites this month due me not being able to wear the same type of outfit for more than a week at a time. I did get a striped shirt for my trip to Boston and I am in love with it. It is the softest shirt I own, American Eagle you did a good job. In our brief spell of warm weather I was able to break out my Birkenstocks. At my school you can always tell when it's spring because all the girls (and some guys) are wearing their birks.
My school soccer season started late this month. I'm so pumped because this is by far and away my favorite time of year. What's the best part of the season you my ask? Well, the parkas!  Since the weather can get a bit chilly we have team parkas and they are my favorite thing ever. Sometimes I feel that they are the only reason I play soccer.  Btw don't be to surprised if the number of posts go down for a little bit if I get too busy.
March, what is so special about March? Well if you guessed March Madness and Girl Scout cookies then you'd be right. Last year was the first time I had ever really gotten into March Madness and now I love it. I don't know anything about basketball so this year my bracket is based off of which college i'd rather go to. It's going pretty well, in case you were wondering. If you've never had Girl Scout cookies then you are missing out on life. I love the classic flavors like Thin Mints and Samoas the best. I could eat a whole box in one sitting if I could.
Summer is on my mind right now, so I've been using nail polish and perfume to pretend it's summer. Daisy Dream by Marc Jacobs is my favorite perfume, I've used it almost everyday this month. It is just such a light and sweet perfume that it's like stepping into summer. Okay not really, but the idea is there. On my toes I have had Bikini so Teeny by Essie. I love the color. Light blue is quickly becoming my favorite color so it's no surprise to me that this is my favorite nail polish of the moment.

See you in April!

The Preppy Girl Tag

I'm sure many of you have heard of the preppy girl tag, but if not it's a bunch of questions aimed for a preppier person. I have been seeing this done all over YouTube and have been wanting to do it. So lets get started!

What's you definition or preppy?
I think that preppy is being classy and put together-in both actions and style.

What's your all time favorite brand?
My all time favorite brand would have to be Vineyard Vines. I stumbled across this brand around a year ago and fell in love with it (it helped that I love the whale logo). Vineyard Vines beats out Lilly Pulitzer just because it is more wearable where I live since the Midwest is just too cold for a lot of the year to wear Lilly.

What is your favorite Lilly print?
My favorite Lilly print is a tie between Blue Heaven and Palm Reader. Palm Reader is more of a wild print with a lot of colors. It is so bright and happy looking. Blue Heaven is a more calm print that is less in your face, but I love it because it reminds me of the ocean.

Favorite preppy YouTuber?
I have just started getting into watching YouTuber, so I haven't seen many. My favorite that I have seen would have to be Country and Class. I love her hauls and I think she has preppy style nailed to a T.

Jack Rogers or Sperrys?
There is no question with this one, Sperrys. I don't own a pair of Jacks, but I might happen to own 6 pairs of Sperrys. I wear them all year round in any weather.

Jeans or Khakis?
Jeans for sure, and that could be because for my time in private school because I had to wear khakis everyday.

Opinion on Oxfords?
Love Love Love oxfords (the shirts). I wear them at least once a week. My favorites are from Polo, but I have some from American Eagle that are really nice. I wear mine with vest or layered under sweaters. In my opinion, one can never have too many button downs.
Duck Boots, Riding Boots, or Hunters?
I love all of these and where each of them at least once a week. I would to say Duck Boots. I don't the L.L. Bean pair, but I have the Sperry Salt Water Duck Boots which I absolutely love and would recommend to everyone.

Navy or Black?
Navy, no question. I don't really own a lot of black and I just think that navy looks better on me and matches more of my clothes.

On a scale of 1-10, how much do you love J.Crew?
7, I only have a 2 pairs of chinos from there. At J.Crew, it is either a hit or a miss on whether I like the clothes. Also, it is a little pricey for me especially when I buy a lot of my own clothes.

Favorite Ralph Lauren clothing item?
My favorite Ralph Lauren Clothing item would have to be the button down shirts. They are nice and heavy shirts, perfect for the winter and cool spring time. There are so many colors and I just want all of them! Did you see the outfit with one of my button down shirts, if not check it out here!

Pearls or Bows?
Pearls for sure. I don't like bows, but I wear my pearls everyday in the school year.

Quick Core Workout

I just realized this has like 3 colors in the picture... oh well. Either way I am excited to share with you my core workout. This is a pretty quick workout, it only takes about 10 minutes maximum. It is my go to way to calm down after a stressful day. I prefer this workout to others because it targets most parts of the core, instead of ones that are just obliques or just the upper abs.

Try it out and let me know how it goes!

Boston Packing List

I am so excited for spring break this year. I will be going to Boston to tour some colleges and to visit family. I have been looking forward to this trip for about a year now and I am so pumped to actually go. I am going to be there for 5 days. I am starting to plan what to bring on the trip, but since I haven't been to Boston in about 7  years, so I really no idea of what to expect. Here is the tentative packing list that I have for Boston. I have some running things on there because I am planning (hoping?) that I will have time to run at my hotel. If you have any comments on what I'm bringing or should add please let me know in the comments!

1. The Perfect Bag
I will be bringing my Kate Spade Cobble Hill Ellen cross body. This cross body has been my go to bag for campus tours. It is big enough to hold all of the papers you're given and anything else you might want. I love the neutral color because it matches everything I wear, but it is still unique enough for it not to match everyone else's bag.

2. A Baseball Hat
I am a baseball hat type of girl. Any time that is appropriate for a hat, I'm wearing one. The being said a Midwest winter isn't an appropriate time so I am so excited to break out my Vineyard Vines Hat

3. Workout Clothes
The soccer seasons starts the week before spring break so that means that even if i'm technically on break I still need to be working out. I'll just be bringing my running shoes and Nike Shorts, as well as a couple random t-shirts. (The shorts might end up being worn all the time but no big deal)

4. Rain Coat
Everything I have read has said to bring a rain coat because the weather changes a lot. I'll be bringing a Tommy Hilfiger coat that I picked up at an outlet a while ago. This way it can double as a rain coat and a fashion piece.

5. A Pullover
The average temperature for Boston this time of year is around 50 degrees. That is perfect Shep Shirt weather.

6. Sunglasses
I always bring sunglasses on every vacation just because you never really have an idea of how sunny it is going to until you're there. I've found that all of my sunglasses look the same, so i'll probably just throw in a random pair last minute.

7.  Walking Shoes
Every single thing that I have read has said to bring good walking shoes to Boston. I can not decide on whether to bring my Nikes  or my sperrys. They both are good for walking around, so the one that is picked will be based off of what matches my outfits.

8. Vest
Like I said earlier the weather is normally around 50 degrees which means I will need some layering pieces. I figure vests are a good way to go because they aren't so warm that I would sweat a lot, but they are enough to stop me from freezing. My black vest will be perfect to match everything.

Any recommendations on what to bring?

Maddie

Let's Suit Up

Swimsuits are by far and way the best part about summer. I love lounging around the beach and pool just doing nothing. I mainly wear printed swimsuits, but I did try to find some nice looking solid ones as well. I normally get a new swimsuit every year so I am starting to look for the best one. Last year I got one from Lilly Pulitzer and it is by far my favorite one I have ever had. I found 10 of the most adorable swimsuits that I just had to share!

Which one is your favorite?

Outfit: Spring Stripes

Even though technically it isn't spring, it sure feels like it. In two weeks the weather became 35 degrees warmer. 50 degree weather is so hard to pick out clothes for, but I have found that a light vest over a button down is perfect. The ground is really muddy so Hunters this time of year are a must. I am so ready for short weather but for now cuffed sleeves will have to do.

Spring Nail Polish Colors

Nail polish is one of those simple things in life that I absolutely love. I never paint my finger nails since they always get ruined when I play soccer, but I love seeing my toes with cute colors on them. This being said I think one should always wear season appropriate colors. For the spring I think pastels are the best. Brand wise I normally pick Essie because I find the color of the polish always matches the color of the bottle unlike other brands.

What is your favorite color for this spring?

Spring Wish List

// Jack Rogers // Gingham Shirt // Red Chinos // Sunglasses //  T-Shirt // Baseball Hats // Long Sleeve // Running Shorts (use code: Platten15 for 15% off //

Spring is just around the corner so that means it is time for a spring wishlist. This is actually a spring/summer one because spring doesn't actually exist in Wisconsin. There is only summer, fall and winter. I absolutely love warm weather clothes. Out of these items I want the Krass & Co shorts or the Cabin Crew the most. Both of these items I have been wanting since last summer so I will probably be getting them for myself!

Tips for a great Staycation

You might be looking at the title and saying, "Duh, I know how to have a staycation, all I have to do is stay home." That is technically true but have a good staycation is something that can be fun. I consider myself a somewhat expert on the art of having a good staycation. Last year was the first year I ever got to go anywhere for spring break. For the most part, I stay home for Christmas break and spring break. This year I am going someplace for break, but that doesn't mean I can't share my expertise on having a good time at home.

1. This might seem obvious to you, but I can guarantee that your staycation will stink if you attitude does.
2. This is something I always forgot to do, but if you know ahead of time which of your friends will be in town you don't have to deal with texting people just to find out that they are in Mexico or where ever. This way you can make plans with people before break even starts.
3. This idea looks horrible right? Well it won't look so bad when your friends come home and complain about how much homework they have and you're just chilling out because you finished everything like a week ago.
4. You know that thing in your city that you've always heard about but never done, yeah go do it. Even if it is the weirdest thing ever it's something totally different and exciting.
5. Movies come out all of the time, so go to one that just came out.
6. Doing sometime with your parents might seem like nothing to you, but its surprising what a nice coffee date with mom or a lunch with dad will do to make your day better.
7. Not good at cooking? Who cares! I bet that everyone in your family will be thrilled when they come home to see a plate of cookies on the table. Best part about this is that you can eat as many as you want and no one will every know....
8. Watch that TV show on Netflix that you've been wanting to watch. I know that I've been dying to watch Parks and Rec, but never have the time. So go ahead and binge watch a couple episodes.
